The Eurofighter Typhoon production has ceased, leading to a national security warning. The BAE Systems Warton factory is winding down, with the last jet for Qatar nearing completion. A union official stated that major assembly is finished and workers are not being sustained. Sharon Graham of Unite emphasized the severe consequences for jobs, skills, and national security if local fighter assembly stops. Previous governments have not ordered Typhoon jets since 2009, instead, planning to buy foreign F-35 jets. Conservative MP Andrew Snowden cautioned about the imminent threat to the UK's military aircraft capabilities.
"There is one jet in the hangar but it is basically waiting for a few parts and to be painted... As far as major assembly goes, it's finished, it isn't sustaining any workers."
"I have repeatedly told government ministers how much is at risk in terms of jobs, skills, and national security if we stop assembling our own fighter planes."
"If the government fails to confirm this order soon, we face the very real prospect of losing... a vital national capability, the ability to design, assemble and deliver world-class military aircraft independently."
