Shahid Malik, a former MP from Burnley, is one of five people on trial at Bradford Crown Court over involvement with RT Diagnostics. He denies fraudulent trading, causing a public nuisance and money laundering and will not give evidence; his barrister read five character references on his behalf. Prosecutors allege Malik was the driving force behind RT Diagnostics alongside pharmacist and former Labour councillor Faisal Shoukat, who denies the same offences. RT Diagnostics reportedly made 6.67m in three weeks, operated from allegedly shoddy premises in Halifax, and provided false negative Covid-19 test results.
