"Technology should work for everyone. That is why I have established the Women in Tech Taskforce, to break down the barriers that still hold too many people back, and to partner with industry on practical solutions that make a real difference."
"When women are inspired to take on a role in tech and have a seat at the table, the sector can make more representative decisions, build products that serve everyone, and unlock the innovation and growth our economy needs."
The UK government has launched a Women in Tech Taskforce to dismantle barriers facing women in technology and to boost economic growth. The taskforce brings together experts from the technology ecosystem and intends to partner with industry on practical solutions. The Lovelace report identified an annual economic loss of £2bn–£3.5bn linked to women leaving or changing roles in tech. Women make up about 22% of the technology workforce, and an estimated 40,000–60,000 women leave digital roles each year. Contributing factors include limited career advancement, lack of workplace flexibility, bias, and pipeline issues beginning in schooling.
