"Sorting out the resident doctors' dispute is an immediate challenge. There have been 14 strikes si"
James Murray was appointed Health and Social Care Secretary after Wes Streeting’s departure. Murray was elected to the London seat of Ealing North in 2019 and previously served as Deputy Mayor of London and as an Islington councillor from 2006 to 2016, along with work as a management consultant. He joined the whips office after Keir Starmer became Labour leader and is viewed as a Starmer loyalist. In his maiden speech, he described how the NHS helped after a diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. His priorities include cutting NHS waiting times and expanding evening and weekend appointments, funded through a crackdown on tax avoidance and non-doms. He faces an overflowing in-tray and intense scrutiny, with resident doctors’ disputes and strikes as immediate issues.
