Two days before the shooting, the man went to Aguila's house to speak to his wife, but was confronted by him instead. Aguila, his wife and son were at the shopping center when the man showed up, the report read. While he was there to deliver food to a friend, he took the opportunity to try to talk to Aguila's wife again."
Omar Rene Aguila, 69, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after a man was shot on July 12 at Northside Shopping Center in Miami-Dade. The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and later died. Investigators determined the killing stemmed from a romantic affair between the victim and Aguila’s wife that began in 2019; Aguila learned of the relationship in April 2024 and warned his wife to end it. Two days before the shooting the victim confronted Aguila at his home. At the shopping center Aguila, on a mobility scooter, approached the victim’s car during an argument and shot him multiple times. Surveillance video showing the shooting and no gun in the victim’s car led to Aguila’s arrest after an initial detention and release.
