The new channel, Russia's Future, is a collaboration between Alexei Navalny's Anti-Corruption Foundation and Reporters Without Borders. Set to launch via the Hotbird satellite service, this channel aims to combat years of state-controlled propaganda by offering content that was previously inaccessible in Russia. This venture is particularly relevant in light of increased censorship during the ongoing war in Ukraine. Jim Phillipoff noted the significance of providing alternative media sources to Russian audiences, as traditional broadcasting has been largely saturated with pro-government messaging.
For more than 20 years, the Russian public has been bombarded with anti-Western, anti-Ukrainian, anti-democratic, pro-authoritarian propaganda. So this project... is a very important step.
There are a lot of problems and it could be blocked every morning. But satellites can't be shut down or jammed.
