After a bitter past, woman donates kidney to her ex-husband's wife
"We had a very rocky start," McCowen said of Angela Maples, the woman her ex would later marry."
"I had formed the opinion in my brain when I first met her that I don't like her, I'm not going to share my two older children with her," said McCowen, 37, who has two children with her ex-husband."
"She saved my life," said Maples, who lives in Granbury, Texas."
"I was on it for 14 hours a day," Maples said. "It's one of the most challenging things I've ever endured."
Amanda McCowen and Angela Maples began with hostility after Amanda's divorce from Joshua Maples and struggled to be in the same room. Joshua married Angela in 2017, and Amanda retained custody disputes that sustained a toxic relationship. Relations began to shift in 2020 when Amanda's son Jacob moved in with Angela and Joshua. In 2022 Angela developed fatigue, received a diagnosis of renal failure caused by an autoimmune disease, and spent two-and-a-half years on dialysis. Approximately ten years after first meeting, Amanda donated a kidney to Angela, an act that saved Angela's life.
