Some southern states have recently held prices around $3.98 to $3.99 per gallon. The average price per gallon is up 53% since the war started. There are signs prices could worsen further. A GasBuddy analyst said the national average could reach an all-time record above $5.03 per gallon if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed through mid-summer.
