Authorities identify the two victims of New Jersey helicopter crash: They were always together'
"Two men who died after their helicopters collided midair in New Jersey over the weekend both earned their private pilot licenses over a decade ago and would often have breakfast together at a cafe near the crash site before taking to the skies from the local airport. Authorities on Monday identified the two New Jersey men as Kenneth Kirsch, 65, and Michael Greenberg, 71."
"Hammonton police chief Kevin Friel said in a statement that Kirsch, of Carney's Point, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after being flown there, while Greenberg, of Sewell, died at the crash site. Reports were that they were flying in tandem, that they were flying close together, which is probably what caused the collision to occur, Friel told 6ABC."
Kenneth Kirsch, 65, and Michael Greenberg, 71, died after their helicopters collided midair near Hammonton, New Jersey. Both earned private pilot licenses more than a decade ago and often had breakfast together at a cafe near the crash site before flying from the local airport. Witnesses said the helicopters were flying close together before crashing in a farm field about 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia. Hammonton police chief Kevin Friel said Kirsch was flown to a hospital and pronounced dead while Greenberg died at the scene. NTSB investigators found a debris field about 100 yards long with main and tail rotor parts and expect a preliminary report in about 30 days. Video showed a helicopter spinning rapidly and flames engulfed one aircraft, and senators expressed heartbreak. The FAA described the incident as a midair collision.
