"Eliya was kidnapped and held in captivity for 505 days. "Eliya was taken hostage. He did not know what had become of his girlfriend, Ziv, who had stuck in the shelter," Zarchi said. His girlfriend survived the attacks in the bomb shelter. "She either played dead, or she was buried under bodies," Zarchi said. After Ziv was rescued, she fought tirelessly to bring Eliya home."
Two survivors of the October 7 Hamas attacks presented their experiences at Congregation Chevra Thilim in San Francisco. People packed the synagogue to hear first-hand how Eliya and Ziv survived the Nova Music Festival attacks. Ziv survived in a bomb shelter where attackers threw grenades; survivors were few. Eliya was kidnapped and held captive for 505 days while Ziv, rescued earlier, fought tirelessly to bring him home. Video captured their first meeting after his release, and community leaders emphasized bearing witness and understanding the events of October 7.
