Boston bar stirs outrage with its mobster mugshots as decor
""Funny enough, a lot of people have said, 'Oh, he's very good looking," says Savin co-owner Kenneth Osherow."
""I was very close to Eddie," Ryan says. "And these [photos] are guys who killed him, so yeah, it offends me. Of course it does.""
""Take that f****** thing down," says his son, Timmy Connors, who was a baby when his father was murdered by the guy whose image hangs in a gold frame on the wall. "We all know what [Bulger] did, he killed women, innocent people. He was a rat. Who would want someone like Whitey hanging in their place?""
A Dorchester bar greets patrons with a large framed mugshot of mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger. Many locals and victims' families find the display offensive and say it glamorizes violent criminals. The site used to be owned by Eddie Connors, a Bulger victim, which deepens community anger. Patrons and relatives have voiced outrage and demanded the image be removed. The pictures were installed last spring with little initial objection, but complaints increased in recent weeks as awareness spread and emotions resurfaced among those connected to Bulger's crimes.
