"Did you see the welcome that I had outside the school? All the kids and the signs, the bagpipes, the Knights of Columbus and the police? This was tremendous. I love coming to Staten Island. I don't even gripe about paying the toll,"
"This church is so crowded tonight, I think we might have congestion pricing. But we priests are always thrilled when it's standing room only. That's because it's much easier for the people standing to get to their wallets and into their purses,"
"I'm very excited. This is God's outpouring grace, and this is what a living church is all about - people helping each other to make sure the community is alive. This is a people of faith, and it's great to be here with all our parishioners. The church is alive, especially Sacred Heart. It's thriving. It might be old, but it remains young at heart,"
More than 500 people attended the solemn reopening of Sacred Heart R.C. Church following the parish's Brick-by-Brick restoration and bell ringing. Cardinal Timothy Dolan served as the honored guest and delivered humorous remarks praising the congregation's loyalty. Rev. Rhey Garcia launched the Brick-by-Brick Capital Campaign to secure the parish's future and raise funds for vital repairs including the church roof. Garcia described the restoration as God's outpouring grace and celebrated the parish as a living, thriving community that remains young at heart. Garcia thanked Borough President Vito Fossella, his wife Mary Pat, and District Attorney Michael E. for their support.
