"It was one of the most exciting championship games I've ever been a part of, said SHP coach Brian Kreutzkamp."
"We are extremely proud of our team, said Miramonte co-head coach Drew Holland. It was a special season for our group. They played great water polo in the NorCal final and throughout the entire season. Unfortunately, the final stretch of the fourth quarter didn't go our way, which can happen in sports when going against a great team like Sacred Heart. They are a talented and well-coached team. We showed this year that Miramonte can beat anyone in the state, and this loss gives us more motivation to come back stronger next season."
Sacred Heart Prep beat Miramonte 11-10 at University of the Pacific when Gates Gamble scored the winning goal with one second left. SHP trailed from 5:28 of the first quarter until Gamble tied the game 8-8 with 2:25 remaining in the third. Gamble also tied the game 10-10 with 48 seconds left and finished with four goals. Clay Carrington had three goals and an exclusion drawn; Oliver Marcin scored twice; Ryan Karr and Ario Hamrah added singles. Goalkeeper Murdoch Baker-Matsuoka made five saves. Miramonte’s Tristan Tucker and Mason Tunney scored three goals each; Zavi Ryder recorded three saves. SHP finished No. 3 and Miramonte No. 4 in MaxPreps rankings.
