An active shooter at Brown University killed two people and wounded nine others, forcing the campus into lockdown for several hours. A student who was visiting a friend sheltered in the university library with others after staff locked doors and directed people away from windows. Witnesses reported someone lying on the ground and calls to 911. Students remained sheltered for seven hours before being bused to another location and later finding off-campus lodging. The abundance of law enforcement vehicles contrasted with an eerie silence outside the secured zone. The student reported feeling desensitized by frequent reports of shootings until the incident hit close to home.
