DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry as shutdown continues
"DHS Secretary Kristi L. Noem said in a statement that the agency is "making tough but necessary workforce and resource decisions" and prioritizing the "general traveling population" at airports and ports of entry."
""This is the third time that Democrat politicians have shut down this department during the 119th Congress," Noem said in a statement."
""Shutdowns have serious real world consequences, not just for the men and women of DHS and their families who go without a paycheck, but it endangers national security.""
DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry starting Sunday at 6 a.m. Eastern as much of the agency is shut down after Congress failed to fund DHS. The pause aims to redirect staffing and prioritize the general traveling population at airports and ports of entry. The department will suspend airport police escorts for members of Congress and other expedited services. FEMA will halt all non-disaster-related responses and require approval for all FEMA travel to prioritize disaster relief ahead of a winter storm. Democrats demanded new restrictions and body cameras after federal agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis; talks with the White House did not yield a funding deal.
