A group of drag performers plans to protest President Trump and Vice President Vance at the opening night of Les Miserables at the Kennedy Center. This protest follows Trump’s commitment to eliminate drag shows at the venue. Vagenesis, a performer involved in the protest, expressed her sentiment that theater should be a welcoming space for all. Recently, Trump overhauled the center’s leadership and criticized its programming, leading to cancellations and relocations of events by some performers and Pride organizations.
Theater is supposed to be a place of community, a place of storytelling, a place of celebration, joy, catharsis and it should be open and available to all.
The programming was out of control with rampant political propaganda, [diversity, equity and inclusion] and inappropriate shows.
