Drivers at Amazon warehouse in Woodside unionize with Teamsters - QNS
"Basically, it's holding people hostage by saying, 'if you want to fight for better conditions, then you're going to risk us just wiping out the jobs of 100 or 200 people overnight.'"
"People are terrified that they could lose their job even if they did nothing wrong as an individual,"
"constant state of fear"
"abusive"
Over 200 drivers at Amazon's DBK1 warehouse in Woodside voted to unionize with Teamsters Local 804 and marched to management on Dec. 9 to deliver the news. The drivers join nearly 10,000 Amazon workers across five states who have organized with the Teamsters, following last year’s DBK4 Maspeth strike and union drive. DBK1 drivers work for independent Delivery Service Partners (DSP) and are not directly employed by Amazon, yet they operate company-branded trucks and wear Amazon uniforms. Teamsters called the DSP model "abusive," arguing it allows companies to evade responsibility, threaten safety, and deter reporting. Drivers reported job insecurity under at-will employment and widespread fear of losing work for asserting demands.
