East Bay pimp allegedly used prostitutes to sell guns to criminals
"In some cases, he would proposition them to come to California to 'work' for him as prostitutes,"
"Authorities determined the guns he sold were "often used to commit violent felonies, such as gunpoint robberies,""
"the offenses in this case were completely intertwined with Mr. Thompson's cocaine dependency,"
Najee Thompson, 32, received a five-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to dealing firearms without a license and being arrested in Oklahoma shortly thereafter. Federal authorities allege Thompson recruited women via dating websites, wooed them, and convinced them to act as straw purchasers to buy guns for him to resell to criminals. One woman allegedly traveled from Arizona to California to work as a prostitute for Thompson after purchasing guns; she was later threatened when she stopped buying. Authorities linked dozens of recovered guns sold by Thompson to violent felonies, including gunpoint robberies. Defense cited an abusive upbringing and cocaine dependency and submitted support letters describing him as a devoted father.
