Every US state's fastest-growing small town you've never heard of
"Whether it's suburbs next to urban areas or towns that have become hot spots in their own right, all 50 states are seeing population growth in small- and medium-sized towns. Business Insider used the latest four-year Census data, ranging from April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2024, to calculate the population growth percentage in each state's towns and cities across the time period."
"In the interest of avoiding municipalities with negligible populations, we focused on places with a population of more than 1,000 residents at the time of the 2020 Census. We also excluded unincorporated areas and Census-designated places belonging to a larger city. Of the 50 towns, most have populations under 20,000."
US Census data from April 2020 to July 2024 reveals that all 50 states experienced population growth in small and medium-sized towns, not just major metropolitan areas. The nation's population has grown by approximately 58 million since 2000. Most of the fastest-growing towns have populations under 20,000 residents and are often situated near major urban centers, typically within 25 miles. Westlake, Florida, Hoschton, Georgia, and Josephine, Texas emerged as the top three fastest-growing towns during this period. The analysis focused on municipalities with populations exceeding 1,000 residents in the 2020 Census, excluding unincorporated areas and Census-designated places.
