FBI arrests California man over ransom demand in Nancy Guthrie disappearance
"We have found no evidence linking this to Nancy's case, said Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Phoenix division. It was someone that was trying to profit from it. A total imposter."

Derrick Callella, 42, was arrested in Hawthorne, California, and charged federally with transmitting a ransom demand and making anonymous interstate communications intended to harass or threaten. Authorities allege he sent fake ransom text messages to Savannah Guthrie's family shortly after the family posted an emotional plea video for their missing mother, Nancy. The texts read, "Did you get the bitcoin were [sic] waiting on our end for the transaction," and were sent through an internet application using a phony number. Investigators traced the phony number's IP address to Callella's home and say he admitted using the application and pulling family information from a cyber website to see if the family would respond. Officials say they have found no evidence linking Callella to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance and that he appears to have been attempting to profit from the case. The criminal complaint was filed in Arizona and the Department of Justice pledged to protect victims and hold grief profiteers accountable.
