"The FBI has taken over the investigation into an ICE agent fatally shooting a woman in Minnesota, completely cutting local authorities out of the probe. Minnesota state police will no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation, said Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans. Though the FBI would normally take the lead on such an investigation, it would also usually work together with state authorities, Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson said at a press conference."
"A picture is displayed at a makeshift memorial for Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed at point blank range on January 7 by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent as she apparently tried to drive away from agents who were crowding around her car, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 8, 2026. "Without complete access to the evidence, witnesses and information collected, we cannot meet the investigative standards that Minnesota law and the public demands, Evans said. As a result, the BCA has reluctantly withdrawn from the investigation. A masked ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good, 37, as she attempted to move her car during an immigration operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday."
The FBI assumed sole control of the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by a masked ICE agent in Minneapolis, excluding Minnesota state police from case materials, scene evidence and investigative interviews. The U.S. Attorney's office transferred full control to the FBI despite prior agreements for cooperation between FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). The BCA withdrew because lack of complete access prevented meeting investigative standards required by Minnesota law and public expectations. Good was shot at point-blank range on January 7 as she apparently attempted to drive away during an immigration operation. Video reportedly did not show imminent danger to agents, who were uninjured, and senior administration officials quickly blamed Good and praised the agent.
