Floods turned beloved Texas camp into a nightmare

Severe flooding in Kerr County, Texas, resulted in at least 43 deaths, including 15 children, after nearly a foot of rain fell. At Camp Mystic, 27 girls remain unaccounted for, approximately 36 hours after the floods struck. Authorities have rescued about 850 individuals and are committed to finding the missing campers. State officials said 27 girls from Camp Mystic, a riverside Christian camp for girls in Hunt, Texas, still were unaccounted for about 36 hours after the flood.
Gov. Greg Abbott vowed that authorities will work around the clock to find the missing girls and others swept away in the storm that caught residents by surprise.
The camp, established in 1926, became popular to the extent that families are encouraged to put prospective campers on the waitlist years in advance.
