Freeman touts Irish's case: Who's best right now?
"For Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, there was no need for a passionate postgame pitch for why he believes the Irish belong in the College Football Playoff. To him, Notre Dame's inclusion is straightforward. "Who are the best teams now?" Freeman said following Notre Dame's 49-20 win against Stanford. "Not Week 1 -- now. It's hard to argue we aren't one of those teams.""
"Assuming there is no shuffling in the 8-12 range -- Oklahoma, Alabama, BYU and Miami all won this week -- there appears to be only one scenario that could be problematic for the Irish. If No. 10 Alabama (SEC) and No. 11 BYU (Big 12) both win their conference title games, they would clinch their playoff spots, leaving Notre Dame as possibly the first team out."
Marcus Freeman said Notre Dame belongs in the College Football Playoff, calling inclusion straightforward after a 49-20 win at Stanford. Notre Dame is 10-2 and ranked No. 9 with the regular season complete. The Irish have won 10 straight games, all by double-digit points, following early losses to Miami and a one-point loss to Texas A&M. If No. 10 Alabama and No. 11 BYU both win their conference title games, they would clinch playoff spots and could leave Notre Dame on the outside. Oklahoma at No. 8 and Miami at No. 12 are key positioning factors.
