"We're looking to embrace the next evolution of air transportation, particularly within an urban environment,"
"Our airports experience relatively low congestion compared to commercial airports, positioning them well as early adopters for pilot programs and demonstration activities."
The North Texas Council of Governments applied to the Federal Aviation Administration for a pilot project to test unpiloted electric vertical takeoff-and-landing aircraft. The council represents counties, cities, school districts, and other government organizations across a 16-county region anchored by Dallas-Fort Worth. Partner airports in the proposed pilot include Dallas Fort Worth International, Arlington Municipal, Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance, and Fort Worth Meacham. Meacham and Spinks serve private aircraft while Perot Field handles cargo. Roger Venables, Fort Worth's aviation director, foresees regular air taxi service within five years. DFW and Arlington have worked with Overair since 2023, but the FAA has not yet authorized passenger operations.
