Gauff on Open loss: 'Not going to let this crush me'
"I am not going to let this crush me."
"I just made way too many mistakes -- way too many errors -- which I feel like that's the part of my game that I felt the most confident in, coming into the tournament. So, it was kind of a weird match, feeling confident in different areas swapping,"
"I mean, it's disappointing. For sure, it was not the level that I wanted to bring."
"For me, I felt so discombobulated on the court, because it's like: I'm serving well, but not returning well,"
Coco Gauff lost to Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth round of the US Open in 64 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Gauff entered as the No. 3 seed and 2023 champion; Osaka was seeded No. 23. Gauff committed 33 unforced errors, including 20 forehand errors, and never earned a break chance while returning. Osaka made 12 unforced errors. Gauff's serve has been a recent concern though it held up in the match. Gauff added biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan and had earlier split from coach Brad Gilbert after a previous fourth-round exit marked by 19 double faults.
