Google purchased seven small modular reactors from Kairos Power to supply data centers and support rising AI-driven energy demand, with the first reactor online in 2030 and the remainder by 2035. The initial reactor will be located at Kairos Power’s Hermes 2 Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, increasing the plant’s output from 28 MW to 50 MW. The 50 MW will feed Google's data centers in Tennessee and Alabama and provide additional supply to the Tennessee Valley Authority grid. The Tennessee Valley Authority is the first U.S. utility contracted to buy electricity from the reactor, with purchases beginning in 2030.
