Greenland will never be piece of property' to be bought, PM says
Briefly

During Jens-Frederik Nielsen's first trip to Denmark since taking office, he and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen condemned U.S. President Trump's threats to seize Greenland. They emphasized Greenland's autonomy, asserting it cannot be treated as property. This visit followed Frederiksen's prior remarks in Greenland, pressing that the issue extends beyond these territories to the global community and international order. Trump's framing of Greenland as vital for international peace due to security concerns sparked tensions, prompting Nielsen to call for strengthening ties with Denmark against such disrespectful rhetoric from the U.S.
We will never, ever be a piece of property that can be bought by anyone, and that's the message I think is most important to understand, Jens-Frederik Nielsen told reporters.
This is not only about Greenland or Denmark. This is about the world order that we have built together across the Atlantic over generations," Frederiksen stated.
Tensions between the US and Denmark have soared after Trump repeatedly said he wanted to take control of resource-rich Greenland for security reasons.
Trump noted, "I think we need that for international peace, and if we don't have that, it's a big threat to our world. So I think Greenland is very important for international peace."
