During a final week in Taiwan, the red cypress forests of Alishan emerged as a beloved destination amidst the misty mountains and high-altitude tea. The ancient forests offered a timeless stillness that facilitated an inner calm, providing a contrast to years of stressful reporting. The experience was enriched by the late-afternoon sunlight filtering through the cypress grove, which was poetically described by a fellow hiker as "god's smile.” This moment captured a sense of beauty and tranquility in nature at its finest.
In November, during one of the last weeks of my posting in Taiwan, I went to my favorite place there: the red cypress forests of Alishan.
Their mossy glory and stillness felt timeless, and they helped me find an inner calm after years of fast-paced, often stressful reporting.
In this picture, the late-afternoon sun was peeking through this grove of cypresses at just the right angle.
Another hiker walking past me commented that the rays were like "god's smile."
