Giuseppe Canzani, 43, shot 51-year-old Anna Torres on May 4, 2022, at her Ozone Park home, striking her in the neck and arm as she opened the front door. Torres was found lying face up in a pool of blood and was pronounced dead. Canzani fled in a black Chevrolet Traverse, then returned to the 106th Precinct, placed a Taurus .45-caliber handgun on the sidewalk and said he wanted to turn himself in. Canzani told police he believed Torres was "a witch" who had cursed him. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on Sept. 8 and was sentenced by Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder to 23 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
