Interim Poggi: U-M a malfunctioning organization
""massive self-examination of what's happened in this building.""
""It's been five years of a malfunctioning organization.""
""Let's call it what it is: It's happened every year. The athletic director doesn't want any more of that.""
Michigan interim coach Biff Poggi described the program as a malfunctioning organization and said a massive self-examination is required after multiple high-profile scandals. The school fired coach Sherrone Moore for cause on Dec. 10 over an inappropriate relationship; Moore faces criminal charges including felony third-degree home invasion and was released on bond. The program endured a 2023 signal-stealing scandal tied to former staff member Connor Stalions, recruiting violations that produced penalties for coaches, and the firing of former offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, who faces a federal hacking indictment. Poggi has interviewed with athletic director Warde Manuel and will coach the team in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
