Noem acknowledged there may be validity in the allegations of Qatari funding for anti-Israel movements, while also noting multiple factors contribute to campus hostility. She criticized universities for lacking law enforcement presence and stated that failure to create safe environments could lead to further actions against institutions like Harvard. Both emphasized the need for universities to ensure environments where all students can learn safely.
Noem stated, "Some of these universities have even barred law enforcement officers from coming on campus, and haven't even allowed there to be basic law and order on the areas that they're responsible for."
Turner asked Secretary Noem if she agrees with the Israeli consul's views on Qatar, stating, "I believe, Madam Secretary, that the Qataris in particular are behind a lot of the anti-Semitism you just described."
