Law enforcement is trying to combat abusive AI. Experts say easier said than done
"The sheer volume of the content Strahler created is not unusual for these sorts of offenders, and that is part of what makes it so difficult for law enforcement to manage."
"Nowadays, you can even go to a web domain and put in a prompt, and you have to have very little technical knowledge to be able to start creating the content."
James Strahler, 37, was convicted of cybercrimes including cyberstalking and producing obscene images under the Take It Down Act. He created over 700 illicit AI-generated images and posted them online. Strahler was apprehended after a victim reported harassment. Experts highlight the challenges law enforcement faces due to the ease of creating such content with AI technology, which has led to an overwhelming volume of material that offenders can produce with minimal technical skills.
