The U.S. military has identified two Marines, Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino, who tragically lost their lives in a vehicle accident in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. The incident involved their vehicle rolling into a 10-foot ditch while trying to pass another vehicle along a narrow highway. The Marines, both members of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, were recognized for their service and received condolences from their commanding officer. The area where the accident occurred is described as particularly hazardous.
The loss of Lance Cpl. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. Gamino is deeply felt by all of us, said U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Tyrone A. Barrion. I extend my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families of our fallen brothers. Our top priority right now is to ensure that their families, and the Marines affected by their passing, are fully supported during this difficult time.
The area out there is treacherous, commented a source. It would be a horrible place to go off the road because the canyon is right off the shoulder.
