Mayor: D.C. shooting suspect drove cross-country to "attack America"
"The 29-year-old suspect, an Afghan national who officials said previously worked with the CIA, lived in Bellingham, Washington. Officials believe he resided with his wife and five children, U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said at a Thursday briefing. He entered the country through a Biden-era program designed to assist vulnerable Afghan nationals, including those that aided U.S. forces during the war. The suspect, Pirro said, was shot by a member of the Guard and is in a local hospital."
"In partnership with Pirro's office, the FBI executed multiple search warrants across the country following the shooting, including on the suspect's last-known residence, FBI Director Kash Patel said. He said that everyone in that house had been interviewed and that other interviews are ongoing. "This is a coast-to-coast investigation being led right here in Washington, D.C.," Patel said. The suspect's connection to partner forces in Afghanistan is also being probed "to include any known associates that are either overseas or here in the United States of America," he added."
"The two victims were identified Thursday as 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe. Both underwent surgery. The shooting occurred around 2:15pm ET a short walk away from the White House. The suspect was armed with a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver when he opened fire without provocation, Pirro said. "My message to the individual who committed these acts is, you picked the wrong target, wrong city and the wrong country," Pirro said,"
