National champion Hoosiers get heroes' welcome in return to Bloomington
"Hoo, hoo, hoo, Hoo-siers,"
"I am a Purdue graduate, but I have worked at IU for almost 20 years, and I told my colleagues today this is the first year ever I rooted for IU,"
"I had to pull myself away from the Boilermakers because this season has just been so inspiring and so exciting and there's just like, such a camaraderie within the community."
Indiana Hoosiers won the college football national championship by beating Miami 27-21 on the Hurricanes' home field. Hundreds of fans, players and coaches braved freezing temperatures and brutal wind chills to celebrate the victory on campus in Bloomington. Fans chanted "Hoo, hoo, hoo, Hoo-siers" as six team buses pulled into the south side of the team's practice facility. Coach Curt Cignetti completed a rapid turnaround in two seasons, taking a historically losing program to a national title. The clinching interception came from the nephew of a former Miami player. The season generated widespread camaraderie across the community, even drawing support from a longtime Purdue graduate who works at IU.
