Major Sorffly Davius, a Clarkstown native and 46-year-old soldier, died on March 6 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, from a non-combat related incident while supporting Operation Spartan Shield. He served as a data systems engineering officer with the Headquarters Battalion, 42nd Infantry Division, responsible for computer and communications network security. Davius joined the Air Force in 2004 and transferred to the New York National Guard in 2013. In civilian life, he was an NYPD officer since 2014, an FDNY paramedic, and was on military leave during his deployment. The incident remains under investigation. Rockland County officials honored his service and sacrifice, ordering flags flown at half-staff. He is survived by his wife and six children.
