"We know what is going on in the White House is not representative for all Americans," he told NPR. "I can't understand. If my government said they would attack Sweden, then Denmark would step up and protest that," he said. Thousands of demonstrators marched from Copenhagen City Hall to the U.S. embassy waving Greenlandic flags and chanting that Greenland is not for sale. Protesters wore red hats reading "Make America go away" in response to President Trump's public comments about acquiring Greenland for national security, and Trump said, "One way or the other, we're going to have Greenland." The U.S. already maintains a military presence on the island. A bipartisan Congressional delegation visited Copenhagen to reassure Danish and Greenlandic officials. Danish attendees voiced frustration that many Americans are not protesting the White House rhetoric.
