A 61-year-old man in rural Pennsylvania shot and killed his neighbor, Lori Wasko, before ambushing responding state troopers. The attacker, Carmine Faino, wounded two troopers and fired at emergency personnel and vehicles. Investigators are examining Faino's background to determine the motive behind the shooting. Trooper Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins survived with serious injuries, thanks in part to Perechinsky’s quick medical assistance. Investigators are looking into Faino's past. Both troopers were in stable condition with serious injuries Thursday night. Police did not say why Faino decided to kill Wasko.
Perechinsky applied a tourniquet to Jenkins, and two other troopers were able to help rescue them. He praised Perechinsky for providing first aid to his colleague.
