Record-smashing heat dome is spreading across much of the nation
""Basically the entire U.S. is going to be hot. The area of record temperatures is extremely large. That's the thing that's really bizarre.""
""The physical area of this heat wave likely dwarfs two other historic heat waves - one in 2012 in the Upper Midwest and Northeast and another in 2021 in the Pacific Northwest.""
""Both the Dust Bowl and the 2021 heat wave were more intense, with higher temperatures that hurt people more because they fell in June and July.""
A heat dome is causing record temperatures across the Southwest, with four locations in Arizona and California reaching 112 degrees. Meteorologists predict this heat wave will expand eastward, affecting a large portion of the U.S. and lasting until at least mid-next week. Flagstaff, Arizona, is expected to experience 11 or 12 consecutive days of record-high temperatures for March. This heat wave's physical area may surpass previous historic events, although it is not as intense as past summer heat waves.
