"The evening's other honorees were the high school athletes of the year, baseball player Quinten Marsh of Valley Christian High and basketball and track star Nicole Steiner of Los Gatos High; the amateur athletes of the year, San Jose State football standout Nick Nash and SJSU track and field athlete Emilia Sjostrand; and Michael Aguilar, who was honored as the Special Olympian of the Year - and received the night's first standing ovation."
San Jose inducted its 30th Sports Hall of Fame class at SAP Center before more than 550 attendees, honoring a mix of professionals, pioneers, coaches, and local athletes. Honorees included Landon Donovan, Todd Clever, Afsoon Roshanzamir Johnston, coach Eddie Buller and retired San Jose Giants GM Mark Wilson, credited with inventing the "beer batter" promotion. High school athletes Quinten Marsh and Nicole Steiner, amateurs Nick Nash and Emilia Sjostrand, and Special Olympian Michael Aguilar also received honors, with Aguilar earning the night's first standing ovation. The event featured many past honorees and conveyed a family-reunion atmosphere as winners celebrated with relatives, teammates and mentors.
