Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as a dominant favorite at +160, the shortest PGA Tour odds (excluding starting strokes) since Tiger Woods in 2009. Scheffler has five wins this season and a 13-start top-10 streak, second only to Jack Nicklaus's 14. Bettors have poured money onto Scheffler, accounting for 33% of winner wagers at DraftKings, almost equaling bets on McIlroy, Fleetwood and Henley combined. Rory McIlroy is second at +850, with no other player below 12-1. East Lake will be played without starting strokes and the winner will be crowned FedEx Cup champion.
Despite the short odds, bettors are gravitating to Scheffler, who, as of Tuesday, had attracted 33% of the total amount of money wagered on the tournament's winner at DraftKings. That's nearly as much as has had been bet on next top three contenders -- McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley -- combined. This year's tournament at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta will begin without the starting strokes used in previous years, and the winner will be crowned FedEx Cup champion.
Jeff Sherman, who has been a respected golf oddsmaker in Las Vegas for three decades, estimated that Scheffler would be around +350 against a full field this week with the season-long championship at stake. Scheffler has finished in the top 10 in each of his last 13 PGA Tour starts, the second-longest streak ever behind Jack Nicklaus, who has 14 consecutive top 10s in 1977. Scheffler has won five times on Tour this season.
