Some Middle East flights resume, but thousands of travelers are still stranded by war
"We're waiting to fly out. Our flights keep getting canceled. We've had flights booked every day for the week and Sunday was canceled. Monday was canceled. Tuesday's already been canceled. And so, kind of hoping that the Wednesday flights stay."
"Emirates Airlines, one of the largest carriers in the world, announced it would resume operating a limited number of flights on Monday evening. We are accommodating customers with earlier bookings as a priority, the airline said in a social media post, but warned that all other flights remain suspended until further notice."
"Airlines cancelled more than 3,400 flights in the Middle East on Monday alone, according to a post by the flight-tracking site FlightAware24, bringing the total number of cancellations since the war began to nearly 10,000. Cancellations across seven major Middle East airports have now exceeded 9,500 flights."
Following attacks on Iran by the U.S. and Israel, limited flights resumed from Middle East airports on Monday, but hundreds of thousands of travelers remain stranded at major aviation hubs. Tourists and business travelers are waiting in hotels and airports for word on when normal operations will resume. Emirates Airlines announced resumption of a limited number of flights Monday evening, prioritizing customers with earlier bookings while suspending all other flights. Airlines canceled over 3,400 flights on Monday alone, bringing total cancellations since the conflict began to nearly 10,000 across seven major Middle East airports including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. These airports serve as critical hubs connecting Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
