In response to escalating security threats in the Middle East, the U.S. State Department has set up a dedicated task force to assist American citizens and diplomatic missions. The task force operates continuously, aiming to coordinate support amid a series of recent security alerts. U.S. citizens are strongly advised against traveling to Israel, Iraq, or Iran. However, the U.S. embassy in Israel currently cannot help evacuate Americans, adding uncertainty to the situation as officials have not disclosed details on potential evacuations or assistance numbers.
The Department of State has established the Middle East task force to help coordinate support for U.S. citizens, our U.S. diplomatic missions and our diplomatic personnel and diplomatic engagement.
We remind U.S. citizens not to travel to Israel or Iraq, and not to travel to Iran under any circumstances.
The embassy in Israel is not in a position at this time to evacuate or directly assist Americans in departing Israel.
Bruce declined to give a timeline as to when that might change, and did not share how many Americans had contacted the embassy for assistance.
