Stat(s) Of The Week: Olympic History? - Above the Law
"When the U.S. men's curling team takes the ice this Wednesday, a Minnesota trial lawyer will have his sights on a record."
"At 54, Rich Ruohenon, an alternate on the team, would be the oldest-ever U.S. athlete to compete in the Olympics if he were to enter a match."
"Only two other Americans 50 or older have ever competed, Yahoo Sports reported, citing Olympic historian Bill Mallon."
""I'm sure they're going to try to make it happen," Ruohonen told Yahoo Sports. "I have a pretty good feeling. That's all I want. I want them to be healthy and I want them to win it, but I'm not going to lie. I want to get in for a rock or two.""
Rich Ruohonen is 54 and serves as an alternate on the U.S. men's Olympic curling team. He is a Minnesota trial lawyer from Brooklyn Park and will represent the United States at the Games for the first time. Only two other Americans aged 50 or older have ever competed at the Olympics. Ruohonen has experienced several near misses in prior Olympic qualification attempts. He expects the team to keep its starters healthy but also hopes to enter a match and play a few stones if the opportunity presents itself.
