Video was not allowed in the courtroom, but still images show Irving appearing before a judge in person behind a partition. His attorney requested to waive formal arraignment and put in a plea in on Dec. 16. No bail was set."
"According to charging documents released Monday, Irving had a handgun when he was arrested Friday. The documents also reveal that he admitted to shooting Beam with that gun. Coach Beam's murder was one of two school shootings last week. There was also a shooting at Skyline High School. That's why the DA says she is re-instituting mandatory minimum sentences as it relates to gun cases. The DA says the mandatory minimums will be higher for ghost guns."

Beam's murder was one of two school shootings that week. Mandatory minimum sentences for gun cases were re-instituted and raised for ghost guns. Oakland Police describe the attack as targeted and no motive has been revealed.
