Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, sprinted past a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House correspondents' dinner. He reached the top of the stairs leading to the ballroom where President Trump was present. Eyewitness Erin Thielman reported seeing him run with a gun before officers fired at him. Allen was apprehended without being shot, while a Secret Service officer was wounded. A security perimeter was established around the hotel following the incident.
