"Police sources say he was going 107 mph south on the Cross Island Parkway, more than twice the 50 mph speed limit, when he crashed a relative's 2025 BMW M3 near Hempstead Ave. about 4 p.m. July 5. When Pawar moved from the center lane to the right lane he rear-ended a Honda Accord driven by a 53-year-old man. The force of the impact sent the Accord off the road onto a grassy shoulder, where it slammed into a tree."
"The Accord driver's mother, Hilda Achaibor, who was sitting in the right rear passenger seat, went into cardiac arrest and lost consciousness, police said. Medics rushed Achaibor to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where she died about 45 minutes later. She lived in Rosedale, according to cops. Her son was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, as were two other family members, a 44-year-old woman and a 51-year-old woman."

An 18-year-old driver, Tegh Pawar, was arrested on manslaughter charges after a July 5 crash on the Cross Island Parkway. Pawar was driving a relative's 2025 BMW M3 at an alleged 107 mph in a 50 mph zone when he moved from the center to the right lane and rear-ended a Honda Accord. The Accord left the roadway and struck a tree. A 76-year-old right rear passenger, Hilda Achaibor, suffered cardiac arrest, was hospitalized, and died about 45 minutes later. Three other occupants sustained minor injuries. Pawar had no prior criminal history and was awaiting arraingment in Queens Criminal Supreme Court.
