A widespread search is under way in New Hampshire for a 25-year-old teddy bear named Teddy believed to have gone missing on Aug. 14 from one of three locations: Warren Fish Hatchery in Warren, the parking lot by the food court at the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, or Bluegreen Vacations South Mountain resort in Lincoln. A World War II veteran named Buzzy bought the white bear in Alaska as a gift for Abby Shaw; he died shortly after. The bear comforted Shaw through family deaths and college and later became her daughter's nightly companion for six years. An Aug. 16 Facebook post launched a community search and drew local media attention.
I slept with this bear every night until my daughter was old enough to want him, and she's slept with him every night the past 6 years.
The bear has been with me through a lot and came from someone who was really special to me," Shaw told Boston.com, noting that he's been by her side amid deaths in the family and the woes of college.
Without Teddy, her daughter has experienced "a lot of sleepless nights" and there's been "a lot of tears" when asking "'where's my bear?'" Shaw said.
