This Popular U.S. State Park Is Expanding-and Adding Miles of New Trails With Gorge Views
""Niagara Falls State Park, that is the name that people recognize. They don't recognize 'Whirlpool.' They don't recognize 'Devil's Hole' as much," Mark Mistretta, the New York State Parks Niagara Regional Director, told 7 News WKBW. "We actually did surveys, and a lot of people really didn't make the connection and understand that there's a couple more parks up there, so we want to do a better job marketing that.""
"With the new trail connecting the three former parks along the Gorge corridor, the park will offer almost 5 miles of continuous shoreline overlooks to world-class hiking. The route will connect the Falls with the Whirlpool, Whirlpool Rapids, and the Devil's Hole Rapids. The expansion will also make it easier to incorporate sights like the Aquarium of Niagara, Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center, and the Niagara Power Vista into a Falls visit."
Niagara Falls State Park will incorporate Whirlpool State Park and Devil's Hole State Park as zones and add two miles of connecting trails along the Gorge corridor. The expanded park will stretch continuously from the Niagara Scenic Parkway in the south to the Niagara Power Vista Visitor's Center in the north, offering almost five miles of continuous shoreline overlooks and hiking. Visitor counts show 9.5 million at Niagara Falls State Park in 2024 versus about 453,643 at Whirlpool and 357,807 at Devil's Hole, motivating unified branding to encourage extended visits and easier access to nearby attractions.
