Investigators found signs at her home indicating she did not leave on her own, prompting the case to be treated as a possible crime. Family members began searching after a church contact noted her absence and a relative called 911 when she could not be located. Search and rescue efforts used drones, search dogs, volunteers, Border Patrol support, and the homicide team. Search crews were later pulled back as the site became treated primarily as a crime scene. Family emphasized she is mentally sharp and not dementia-related.
